Mundeshwari Devi Temple
A stone temple on the Kaimur plateau, often described as the oldest functioning Hindu temple, protected by the ASI since 1915.

On the Mundeshwari Hills of the Kaimur plateau, about 185 metres up, stands one of the oldest temples in India still in worship. The Mundeshwari Devi Temple is dedicated to the goddess Durga, worshipped here as Mundeshwari, and to Shiva.
The temple has been protected by the Archaeological Survey of India since 1915. Studies at the site suggest that the hilltop was once a religious and educational centre, with a Shiva temple as its main shrine.
It is often described as the oldest functioning Hindu temple, a claim that reflects how long worship has continued here.
